Zambia End Nora Häuptle Era as Copper Queens Seek New Direction
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed the departure of Nora Häuptle as head coach of the Copper Queens, with both parties agreeing to end their working relationship by mutual consent.
Häuptle took charge of Zambia in January 2025 on a three-year contract, replacing the late Bruce Mwape. Her tenure included guiding the Copper Queens to qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a 7–2 aggregate victory over Namibia.
However, Zambia's campaign at the 2026 WAFCON ended in the group stage, with the team subsequently missing out on qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya said the decision followed discussions with Häuptle’s representatives and was reached in the interest of both parties.
Assistant coach Charles Haalubono will take temporary charge of the Copper Queens while FAZ considers its long-term plans for the national team. The association has not yet announced a permanent replacement.
Häuptle previously coached Ghana’s Black Queens before moving to Zambia and leaves after less than two years in charge of the Copper Queens.
