Edo Queens Appeal CAF Ruling as NFF Forwards Case to CAF Appeals Board
The Nigeria Football Federation has formally forwarded Edo Queens’ appeal against the decision that annulled the club’s penalty shootout victory over Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

Edo Queens FC have formally appealed the CAF Organising Committee for Women’s Football decision concerning their 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU Zone B qualifying final against Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that it has forwarded the appeal to the CAF Appeals Board.
In a letter dated September 28, 2026 and addressed to the President of the CAF Appeals Board, the NFF stated that it was forwarding Edo Queens’ appeal against the decision reached by the CAF Organising Committee for Women’s Football on September 26.
The letter, signed by NFF Deputy General Secretary Emmanuel Edem Ikpeme, also confirmed that the necessary appeal fee had been paid.
The NFF said the appeal and evidence of payment were attached for the consideration of the CAF Appeals Board.
Edo Queens challenge CAF decision
The development comes after CAF annulled the penalty shootout that initially gave Edo Queens a 4-1 victory over Ampem Darkoa in the WAFU-B final.
The match ended 2-2 after 90 minutes in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on September 5, but the teams proceeded directly to penalties without playing the required extra time.
Edo Queens won the shootout 4-1.
However, after considering Ampem Darkoa’s protest, CAF’s Organising Committee for Women’s Football ruled that the direct move to penalties was contrary to Articles 13.1 and 72.4 of the CAF Women’s Champions League Regulations.
CAF annulled the shootout and ordered the final to resume from the beginning of extra time, with the score at 2-2.
The teams are to play two 15-minute periods of extra time. If the score remains level, a new penalty shootout will determine the winner.
NFF forwards appeal
The NFF’s September 28 letter confirms, that the club has formally challenged the Organising Committee’s decision and that the appeal has been forwarded to the CAF Appeals Board.
The NFF also confirmed that the required fee for processing the appeal had been paid.
The case will therefore move to the CAF Appeals Board for consideration.
Edo Queens: “A significant step in the fight for justice”
Edo Queens announced the development on their official social media account, describing the NFF’s action as “a significant step in the fight for JUSTICE.”
The club said it remained hopeful of “fairness, justice, and the right outcome” in its appeal.
The statement was made in reference to the club’s challenge against the CAF Organising Committee for Women’s Football decision.

What happens next?
The immediate next step is for the CAF Appeals Board to consider Edo Queens’ appeal.
Until the appeal is determined, the Organising Committee decision remains the decision outlined in CAF’s September 26 ruling: the original penalty shootout is annulled and the final is to resume from the beginning of extra time at 2-2.
CAF has directed WAFU-B to determine and communicate the date, kick-off time and venue for the continuation in coordination with CAF and the two national football associations.
The Appeals Board’s consideration of Edo Queens’ appeal could therefore be significant to the next stage of the dispute.

For now, Edo Queens remain in the appeals process as the club challenges the ruling that removed the sporting effect of its original 4-1 penalty shootout victory.
