Nigeria and Burkina Faso are the last two teams standing after four matches each, and Sunday’s final presents the Flying Eagles with an opportunity to avenge their only defeat of the tournament.
Road to the Final

However, their final Group B fixture ended in disappointment as Burkina Faso defeated Nigeria 2–0 the Flying Eagles’ only loss of the tournament so far.

The Young Stallions remained unbeaten during the group stage, while Nigeria finished second after recording two wins and suffering their only defeat of the tournament against Burkina Faso.
Nigeria bounced back strongly in the semi-final against hosts Côte d’Ivoire.
After a thrilling 2–2 draw following extra time, the Flying Eagles held their nerve to win 4–3 on penalties, with goalkeeper Clinton Lawani emerging as the hero after saving two spot-kicks.

The Young Stallions opened with a 1–1 draw against Ghana before defeating Togo 3–1. They then secured a 2–0 victory over Nigeria and followed it up with another 2–0 win against Niger in the semi-final.

A Chance for Revenge
The final gives the Flying Eagles a chance to put things right.
Burkina Faso have already shown that they can hurt Nigeria, having secured a 2–0 victory in their Group B meeting on Matchday 3. That remains Nigeria only defeat in the tournament.
But Sunday encounter is a completely different proposition, with the WAFU B trophy at stake.
The Flying Eagles will need to start strongly, stay focused from the opening minute and avoid giving Burkina Faso the same opportunities they exploited in the group stage.
Players such as Abdulmuiz Adeleke, Oraro Lucky, Habila Simeon, goalkeeper Clinton Lawani just to name a few will be expected to be at their best from the first whistle, while coach Abdul Maikaba will need to get his tactics right against a Burkina Faso side that has yet to taste defeat.
History on the Line
Burkina Faso have previously reached the WAFU B U-20 final. In the 2018 edition held in Togo, the Young Stallions reached the championship match but lost 2–0 to Senegal.
For Nigeria, the recent record has been impressive.
The Flying Eagles reached the final and won the title in both of their last two appearances:
2024 Final: Nigeria defeated Ghana 2–1 in Lomé to retain the title.
2022 Final: Nigeria defeated Benin Republic 3–1 in Niamey to win the WAFU B U-20 Championship.
The Flying Eagles are therefore two-time champions and will be aiming to make it three WAFU B U-20 titles.
Burkina Faso, on the other hand, will be chasing their first-ever WAFU B U-20 championship title.
Nigeria also have another piece of unfinished business.
The Flying Eagles lost 1–0 to Côte d’Ivoire in last year edition, making this tournament another opportunity to return to the top of the regional youth football scene.
