D’Tigress Players Receive $100,000 Presidential Cash Reward, NSC Confirms

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed that the Naira equivalent of $100,000 was paid to each player of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, and $50,000 to team officials. The payments were credited to their accounts on 9 September 2026. Recipients have confirmed receipt.

The cash forms part of the presidential rewards announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the team’s fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title and seventh overall. With this transfer, the NSC says the full package promised to the players and officials has now been completed.

That package also included title documents (Certificates of Occupancy) for 3-bedroom flats in Abuja and Certificates of National Honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), signed by the President. Those documents were presented to the team in February 2026 in Lyon, France, during the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers.

The NSC statement notes that the cash payment followed the team’s last match at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.

The same statement records that Super Falcons players and officials received their CofO documents and OON certificates during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in July/August 2026. It adds that the footballers are expected to receive the corresponding cash alerts ($100,000 equivalent for players and $50,000 for officials) before their next official engagements. Super Falcons had been rewarded on the same terms after winning WAFCON for the tenth time.

NSC thanked the President for support to Nigerian sports and thanked the Ministers of Finance, the FCT, Housing and Urban Development, Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, and the Office of the Accountant-General for collaboration that allowed the payments to be processed.

The press release was issued by Dr (Mrs) Kehinde Ajayi, Director of Information & PR, NSC, dated 9 September 2026. This was published by the National Sports Commission.
