Why WAFCON 2026 Matters More Than Ever

This edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations carries extra weight beyond the continental title. For the first time, the tournament features 16 teams, and it serves as the primary African qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The four semi-finalists will secure automatic qualification for the global showpiece. Two additional teams will advance to the intercontinental play-offs.
