Nigeria Super Falcons Receive Mission X WAFCON Reward Package from NSC, NFF

National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko and Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi were in Rabat on Tuesday to hand the Super Falcons the federal government’s reward package for their 2025 WAFCON triumph, just hours before the team kicked off their title defence.

The presentation, was confirmed via the NFF’s official X account.

Reports suggested that Dikko had spent weeks assuring the players and the public that the rewards were moving through government channels rather than being abandoned.

The full extent of what was handed over in Rabat, including whether every player received her housing documents or only a portion of the squad, is not yet known. Neither the NSC nor the NFF had, at the time of this report, broken down the specifics of Tuesday’s presentation beyond the photo shared on the federation’s X account, and further details are expected to emerge in the coming days.

The timing carried its own significance. Nigeria walked out at the Al Madina Stadium later Tuesday to face debutants Malawi in their opening Group C fixture, the first step in a campaign to defend their WAFCON crown and extend their record to 11 titles. The tournament also doubles as Africa’s qualifying route to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the top four semi-finalists earning automatic spots.
For a squad that had publicly flagged concerns over unfulfilled promises in the buildup to the tournament, receiving the reward package on matchday morning could remove the distraction that has previously clouded Nigerian campaigns at major tournaments, and hands the Super Falcons one less thing to think about as they begin the defence of their crown.

The goodwill gestures did not stop there. A day earlier, on Monday, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau personally presented goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie with the certificate for a house gifted to her by Jedo Investment Company Limited, in recognition of her retaining the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year title. The brief ceremony, shared by the NFF via its official X account, was also witnessed by the federation’s Director of Competitions, Ruth David.

It marked the latest in a string of private sector rewards for Nnadozie, who has been one of the standout performers behind Nigeria’s continental dominance in recent years.
