Federal Government Fulfils Reward Pledge as Super Falcons Receive Cash Awards for 10th WAFCON Title
Federal Government completes cash payments of $100,000 to players and $50,000 to officials, finalising the full presidential reward package for the Super Falcons’ historic 10th WAFCON title.

The Federal Government has fulfilled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s reward pledge to the Super Falcons, with players, coaches and officials now receiving their cash awards following Nigeria’s historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title win.
Through the National Sports Commission (NSC), the Federal Government confirmed that each player received the naira equivalent of US$100,000, while each coach and official received the naira equivalent of US$50,000. These payments complete the cash component of the presidential reward package.

The cash awards come in addition to the three-bedroom flats in Abuja and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) already given to members of the team and technical crew.
The rewards were pledged after the Super Falcons came from two goals down to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the WAFCON final in Rabat on 26 July 2025 — a result that extended Nigeria’s record as the most successful side in the history of the continental women’s competition.
NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko thanked the Federal Government and President Tinubu for keeping faith with the team and directing that every aspect of the pledge be fulfilled within a reasonable time.
“The Super Falcons made Nigeria proud, and Mr President has honoured his commitment to them in full. This means a great deal to the team and to Nigerian sports. We sincerely thank Mr President for recognising their achievement and directing that they received everything promised to them in record time,” Dikko said.
He described the timely fulfilment by the Federal Government as a welcome departure from past experiences in which some Nigerian athletes waited years — and in some cases decades — to receive rewards promised for their achievements.
“Some of our sports heroes endured years of waiting for promises to be fulfilled. President Tinubu has shown that things can be done differently. Our athletes can take encouragement from this and prepare to represent Nigeria with confidence that their efforts are appreciated and commitments made to them will be honoured,” he added.
Dikko noted that the Federal Government’s support also sends an encouraging message to young Nigerians pursuing careers in sports, particularly girls who look up to the Super Falcons.
The NSC statement, signed by Zira Zakka Nagga, Head of Press and Public Relations Unit, and dated 2 November 2026, also referenced similar timely rewards extended by the Federal Government to the D’Tigress after their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket success and the earlier fulfilment of benefits for the Super Eagles following their 2023 AFCON silver-medal finish.
The Commission congratulated the Super Falcons’ players, coaches and officials once again on their historic achievement and thanked them for their dedication and service to Nigeria. It encouraged Nigerian athletes preparing for future competitions to draw confidence from the Federal Government’s fulfilment of these commitments and the President’s assurance that “My promise to every Nigerian athlete is: make Nigeria proud, and come back to a grateful nation.”
The payments complete the Federal Government’s reward package for the team’s landmark 10th WAFCON title and underscore a deliberate effort to recognise and incentivise sporting excellence in Nigerian sports.
