Once again: Super Eagles set for Russia showdown
Super Eagles to face Russia in an international friendly in October.
Nigeria's Super Eagles are set to renew acquaintances with Russia in October, with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirming an international friendly between both nations.
It will be the second meeting between the two sides in just 16 months, following their entertaining [1-1] draw in June last year.
Russia took the lead in the 27th minute after Semi Ajayi turned the ball into his own net, but Nigeria fought back and found their equaliser through Tolu Arokodare in the 71st minute.
Now, the two nations are set to square off once again.
The latest encounter will take place at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia — one of the venues used during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Before heading to Russia, the Super Eagles will have their attention firmly fixed on the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, with fixtures Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau on September 25th and 29th respectively.
However, there are already some concerns surrounding the squad.
Victor Osimhen is currently sidelined with an injury and has been left out of Galatasaray's Champions League squad, while Paul Onuachu could also face an extended spell on the sidelines.
Despite the potential absences, the Russia friendly presents another valuable opportunity for head coach Eric Chelle to experiment with his squad, assess fresh options and continue building a stronger Super Eagles team.
With another meeting against Russia now confirmed, Chelle has another chance to put his ideas to the test.
