Nigeria 2-0 Burkina Faso: Flamingos Stay Top of WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup

Nigeria’s Flamingos continued their perfect start to the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup with a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso on Monday at the Lycée Scientifique in Yamoussoukro.

The win means Nigeria remain top of the table with nine points from three matches, having won all three of their games so far.

The Flamingos had to wait until the final stages to break down a Burkina Faso side that kept the game tight for much of the contest.

Flamingos leave it late

Nigeria dominated the contest but were unable to find the breakthrough in the opening 80 minutes.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 82nd minute, when Mary Dunstan scored to give the Flamingos a 1-0 lead.

Burkina Faso then had to push forward in search of an equaliser, leaving space for Nigeria to attack.

The Flamingos sealed the victory deep into stoppage time when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi found the net in the 90+4th minute after dribbling past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

The result secured another clean sheet for Nigeria and maintained their 100 percent record in the tournament.

Nigeria remain top

The Flamingos now have nine points from three games, with three wins from three.

Nigeria opened the tournament with a 5-0 victory over Niger before defeating Ghana 4-2 in the Jollof Derby.

The 2-0 win over Burkina Faso is their third consecutive victory.

Another step towards Morocco

The WAFU-B tournament continues to provide valuable competitive preparation for the Flamingos ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

With three wins from three, Nigeria have made an excellent start in Côte d’Ivoire and remain firmly at the top of the table.

The Flamingos will now turn their attention to their remaining fixtures as they look to maintain their unbeaten run and finish the tournament strongly.
