Morocco End Nigeria’s Davis Cup Challenge With Doubles Win

Morocco secured a place in the 2027 Davis Cup World Group I Play-offs after defeating Nigeria in the decisive doubles rubber of their World Group II tie in Rabat.

The hosts’ Younes Lalami and Yassine Dlimi proved too strong for Nigeria’s Michael Emmanuel and Yusuf Abubakar, winning 6-3, 6-2 to give Morocco an unassailable 3-0 lead in the tie.

Morocco had entered Sunday’s doubles with a 2-0 advantage after Karim Bennani defeated Canice Abua 6-1, 6-2, while Dlimi recorded an identical score against Abubakar in Saturday’s singles.

Nigeria struggled to establish a foothold in the doubles as the Moroccan pair controlled the contest and maintained their advantage across both sets.

The defeat ended Nigeria’s World Group II campaign after the country had secured promotion to the level in February with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan in Lagos.

Morocco subsequently completed a 4-0 victory after Amine Jamji defeated Michael Emmanuel 6-3, 6-4 in the reverse singles. Nigeria will now remain in the World Group II play-offs, while Morocco moves on to the World Group I Play-offs in 2027.
