Match Preview: Flying Eagles Eye Group Summit Against Burkina Faso

The Nigeria U-20 Flying Eagles will conclude their Group B campaign at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship with a clash against Burkina Faso on Sunday, August 2, at the Lycée Scientifique Stadium, Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM (WAT).
Nigeria head into the encounter with confidence, having already secured a place in the semi-finals after winning their opening two matches. The Flying Eagles defeated Ghana 4-2 before following it up with an impressive 3-0 victory over Togo, scoring seven goals while conceding just two.
Four different players have contributed to Nigeria’s seven goals so far, with Abdulmuiz Adeleke leading the scoring chart with four goals. Olayemi Ayinla, Oraro Lucky, and Abdoulaye Agbejoye have each added one goal to underline the team’s attacking depth.
Burkina Faso, meanwhile, sit second in Group B with four points from two matches. Les Étalons opened their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Togo before playing out a 1-1 draw against Ghana. A draw against Nigeria would be enough to send them into the semi-finals.
Although qualification is already secured for the Flying Eagles, all eyes will be on in-form striker Abdulmuiz Adeleke, who has been one of the standout performers of the tournament. It remains to be seen whether head coach Aliyu Zubairu Maikaba will retain his leading scorer in the starting XI or rotate his squad with the knockout stage in mind.
A victory for Nigeria would see the two-time defending champions finish top of Group B with a perfect record, further strengthening their status as one of the tournament favourites.
