Golden Eaglets Step Up WAFU-B U17 Preparations in Abuja

Nigeria’s five-time FIFA U-17 World Cup champions, the Golden Eaglets, continued their preparations for the upcoming WAFU-B U17 Championship with a convincing 4-0 victory over Simonben Academy at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday.
The Coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere-tutored side dominated proceedings against the Kaduna-based academy and went into the half-time break with a narrow 1-0 lead, despite creating several opportunities to extend their advantage.
The Eaglets raised the tempo after the restart, eventually breaking down their opponents’ resistance with three more goals to complete an emphatic 4-0 victory.
Later that evening, the Golden Eaglets returned to the same venue for another friendly against Galadima FC of Abuja. However, they were unable to find a breakthrough as Galadima put up a disciplined performance to hold the national U-17 side to a goalless draw.
The two friendly matches form part of the Eaglets’ ongoing build-up as they fine-tune their squad and preparations ahead of the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Championship, scheduled to take place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from October 4 to 17.
With the regional tournament fast approaching, the Golden Eaglets will be looking to use their remaining preparation matches to sharpen their attacking play, improve their defensive organisation and build momentum ahead of the competition.
