Nigeria’s Flying Eagles got their WAFU B U20 Championship campaign off to the perfect start with a commanding 4-2 victory over arch-rivals Ghana in their Group B opener.
The seven-time champions showed their quality from the opening whistle, continuing their strong record against Ghana after defeating them in the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship final in Lomé, Togo, where Kparobo Arierhi scored a memorable brace.
The Flying Eagles took the lead just six minutes into the match through Olayemi Ayinla, before Lucky Oraro doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 30th minute.
In-form forward Abdulmuiz Adeleke continued his impressive goalscoring run, netting a brace with goals in the 40th minute and deep into stoppage time from the penalty spot (90+3’) to seal an impressive opening-day victory.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to their second Group B fixture against Togo.
