Nigeria Flamingos beat Ghana 4-2 at the 2026 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup despite red card

The Jollof Derby had spice, a sending-off, and four Nigerian goals. Coach Busari’s side still took the points in Yamoussoukro despite finishing with 10 players.

Nigeria came in off a 5-0 win over Niger U17 two days ago, on 16 September. Ghana on the other hand arrived off a 4-0 win in their opening game. Nigeria now have 9 goals in 2 games. Impressive.

Nigeria were the better side early. Ghana stayed compact and waited. The first real puncture came in the 33rd minute. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi struck it. A beautiful finish. The NWFL Player of the Season. A WAFU B MVP. A Flamingos problem Ghana could not solve. Nigeria 1-0.

Captain Harmony Chidi made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time, 45+2’. Control at the break.

The match turned after the hour.

In the 59th minute, Elizabeth Adesuyi was sent off. Last defender. Foul on a Ghana attacker. Straight red. Nigeria down to 10.

Ghana captain Seidatu Wahab punished it immediately. The resulting free kick, 62’. 2-1. One goal scored. One-player advantage. Game on.

Nigeria did not fold.

Mary Dunstan had already answered the test by then. In the 70th minute she beat a defender, took the goalkeeper out of the picture, and finished. A fantastic goal. 3-1. The lead restored with 10 on the pitch.

Harmony Chidi thought she had a third in the 73rd minute. The flag went up. Offside. No goal.

Kaosarat Akanji added the fourth from a free kick in the 87th minute. The contest looked closed.

Gloria A. Ameaa pulled one back in the 90th minute. 4-2, however it came too late.
