US Open Junior Championships: Ogunsakin Falls to Doig in Second Round

Nigeria’s Seun Ogunsakin has bowed out of the US Open Junior Championships after a spirited three-set defeat to South Africa’s Connor Doig in the second round.

Ogunsakin fought back after losing the opening set 2-6, taking the second 6-4 to force a decider. However, Doig held his composure in the final set to secure a 6-3 victory and book his place in the next round.

Despite the loss, Ogunsakin’s campaign marks an important milestone in his young career. The Nigerian teenager recorded his first Grand Slam main-draw victory in the opening round, overcoming Taiwan’s Kuan-Shou Chen in a thrilling three-set battle.

Ogunsakin had also come through qualifying to reach the main draw, making his run in New York even more significant.

The 17-year-old’s performance further underlines his growing potential on the international junior circuit and provides valuable experience against some of the world’s best young players.

Although his singles journey has ended, Ogunsakin can take plenty of positives from his US Open campaign as he continues his development and pursuit of a breakthrough on the global tennis stage.
