Nigeria’s Sand Eagles Miss 2026 Beach Soccer AFCON After 7-4 Defeat to Ghana
Nigeria’s Sand Eagles lose 7-4 to Ghana’s Black Sharks in Keta, suffering a 10-7 aggregate defeat to miss out on the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal.

Nigeria’s Sand Eagles have failed to qualify for the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal after suffering a 7-4 defeat to Ghana’s Black Sharks in the second leg of their qualifying tie at Keta Emancipation Beach on Sunday.
The defeat leaves Nigeria with a 10-7 aggregate loss following the 3-3 first-leg draw in Kaduna, as Ghana secured the ticket to the continental tournament.
The Sand Eagles entered the decisive encounter knowing that a victory would secure qualification, but the Black Sharks took control of the match and maintained their advantage across the three periods.
Ghana Take Control in First Two Periods
Nigeria named Godwin Tale in goal for the encounter, with captain Victor Tale, Emmanuel Ohwoferia, Taiwo Adams, Clement Eganosi, Ekene Obi, Isa Hamza Manga, Hassan Abdullahi, Dozie Frank, Hassan Abubakar and Effiong Eyo also included in the team list. Nuhu Aiki Noma was the second goalkeeper.
The Black Sharks made a strong start, taking a 4-2 lead by the end of the first period to put Nigeria under immediate pressure.
Ghana continued to extend their advantage in the second period, scoring twice more to move 6-2 ahead.
With the aggregate score having been level at 3-3 before the return fixture, Nigeria needed a response to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Late Fightback Not Enough for Nigeria
Ghana added another goal in the third period to establish a 7-2 lead, leaving the Sand Eagles facing a difficult task in the closing stages.
Nigeria responded with two goals to reduce the deficit to 7-4, showing some attacking resistance late in the encounter. However, the comeback was not enough to prevent the Black Sharks from securing victory.
The match ended 7-4 in favour of Ghana, completing a 10-7 aggregate win across the two legs.
Ghana Qualify for 2026 Beach Soccer AFCON
The victory confirms Ghana’s place at the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal, while Nigeria’s qualifying campaign ends at the final hurdle.
For the Sand Eagles, the result marks a disappointing conclusion to a tie that had been evenly poised after the first leg in Kaduna.
Nigeria had drawn 3-3 with Ghana in regulation time in the opening encounter, although that match was initially extended to extra time and a penalty shootout before the officials admitted an error in allowing the additional periods.

The return leg in Keta ultimately decided the contest, with Ghana producing a seven-goal performance to book their place at the continental championship.
Full-time: Ghana 7-4 Nigeria
Aggregate: Ghana 10-7 Nigeria

Outcome: Ghana qualify for the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal.
