Morocco’s World Cup Dream Cut Short by France Again, This Time in the Quarterfinals

Morocco’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign ended on July 9 with a 2-0 defeat to France in the quarterfinals at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. For the second successive tournament, France have stopped the Atlas Lions in the knockout stages.

In 2022, Morocco reached the semi-finals before losing 2-0 to France. This time the run ended one round earlier. Still, they made history as the first African nation to reach the World Cup quarterfinals in back-to-back editions.

Morocco went unbeaten in Group C, finishing second with 7 points behind Brazil on goal difference.
