EXCLUSIVE: Madugu goes all out in attack for must-win Egypt clash

The Super Falcons are set to face Egypt in their final Group B fixture of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, knowing that only victory will guarantee them a chance of reaching the knockout stages.

Nigeria suffered a shock opening-day defeat to Malawi before bouncing back with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia in their second group match to keep their qualification hopes alive.

However, the Super Falcons must now beat Egypt to stand a realistic chance of progressing. Their fate will also depend on the outcome of the other group fixture between Zambia and Malawi, with only a high-scoring one-goal victory for Zambia capable of eliminating Nigeria even if the Super Falcons secure all three points.

AdemolaSports.com exclusively understands that head coach Justin Madugu has opted for an attack-minded lineup ahead of tonight's decisive encounter.

With centre-back Tosin Demehin suspended following her red card against Zambia and Jennifer Echegini ruled out through suspension after accumulating yellow cards, Madugu has been forced into changes.

We understand that Christy Ucheibe drops into central defence alongside the experienced Osinachi Ohale, while Toni Payne returns to the starting lineup to strengthen the midfield.

AS Roma winger Rinsola Babajide has also been handed her first start of the tournament. She is expected to operate from the left flank, replacing Uchenna Kanu, who started against Zambia.

Esther Okoronkwo drops to the bench.

Deborah Abiodun will anchor the midfield as the lone defensive midfielder, with captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Toni Payne providing the creativity further forward.

In defence, Michelle Alozie and Shukurat Oladipo are expected to occupy the full-back positions, while Chiamaka Nnadozie retains her place in goal for the 10-time African champions.
